The Winery of Holy Cross Abbey

Nestled at the crossroads of the Sangre de Cristo and Rocky Mountains, the winery and tasting room are shining examples of what has been attracting visitors from all over the world to Cañon City and Fremont County.

Under the watchful eye of award-winning winemaker and partner, Matt Cookson, the Abbey planted several acres of grapes in 2000. Becoming attached to the area and the whole renewal process, Matt took over as general manager, viticulturist and winemaker in the Fall of 2001. He moved to Colorado from Napa Valley with his wife Sally, who handles the tasting room and marketing areas of the winery.
The Holy Cross Abbey has a long history of growing the finest garden and orchard produce. They are always creating new and special-run vintages and proudly offer fine wines for your enjoyment, and as a testament to their past and present achievements.

The tasting room is open daily, and has been designed to make your wine experience truly memorable. It was voted “Best Front Range Tasting Room” –Colorado Vine. Visit in the spring and summer and enjoy the beautiful outdoor garden setting while viewing thriving vineyards growing against the majestic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. In the winter, warm your hands by our toasty fireplace while sipping a rich full-bodied Merlot.

Also providing a wonderful shopping experience, the tasting room is filled with rich, colorful textiles from Provençe, exquisite crystal from Italy and an extensive selection of the most up-to-date wine accessories. The gift shop is filled with items from all over the world, as well as many items that are distinctively Colorado. There is ample parking, and the beautiful tree-shaded park has picnic tables where you can enjoy your lunch and a bottle of wine. Enjoy books that relate to every aspect of wine, cooking and travel, and let the helpful knowledgeable staff assist you with your perfect wine selection. Your gifts can be taken care of from start to finish, and can ship wine to most states.
